This fashion photography session in Whitehorse, Yukon was extraordinary, not only because of the breathtaking locations, but because of the incredible talent of the teens who took part.

Two of the young women are students in a High School Fashion, Design, and Arts program, and every outfit in the session was designed and sewn by hand by them. Their sewing and design skills are remarkable, every stitch reflected creativity, vision, and craftsmanship that would impress even seasoned designers. These pieces were originally featured in their school’s annual fashion show, and photographing them in Yukon’s dramatic landscapes gave their art a whole new stage.
The third teen joined as a supportive friend and model. Her presence added warmth, laughter, and an authentic sense of friendship to the session, which made the images even more memorable.
We wanted the settings to match the artistry of the outfits, so we photographed in three of Whitehorse’s most breathtaking locations:
Grey Mountain overlook in Takini – sweeping views of ridgelines and endless skies provided a dramatic backdrop for bold handmade designs.
Miles Canyon – the rich green forest and striking basalt cliffs contrasted beautifully with the textures of their outfits, creating editorial-style images.
Whistle Bend Overlooking the Yukon River – the river and surrounding mountains offered soft, serene tones that highlighted the elegance and flow of the handmade garments.
The Yukon landscape became a natural runway—vast, dramatic, and alive with light and texture.
Photographing outdoors at 9 am in June meant bright full sun, summer heat, and smoky skies. Conditions were intense, but the teens embraced it all with enthusiasm. Their laughter was contagious, and their excitement for showcasing handmade fashion designs brought an authentic energy to the session.
Even with the smoky haze, the landscape shone with character, and the light wrapped around the handmade garments in ways that made them glow. The mix of artistry, collaboration, and nature created something timeless.
This wasn’t just a fashion photoshoot, it was a celebration of youth creativity, friendship, and talent in Whitehorse. Two students brought their vision to life through sewing and design, and their friend stepped in as a model to support and share in the experience. Together, they created something that felt powerful, joyful, and deeply rooted in both art and place.
Sessions like this remind me why I love photography: it’s about more than images—it’s about stories, collaboration, and honoring the artistry of others.
