Nine months. That’s how long it takes to grow a tiny, miraculous human being inside of you. We marvel at every kick, every flutter, every heartbeat. And yet, the moment the baby arrives, so many of us feel pressure, from society, from the media, and sometimes even from ourselves, to “bounce back” as though our bodies didn’t just perform a miracle.

But what if we chose to see things differently? What if every stretch mark, curve, and extra pound wasn’t an “imperfection,” but instead a visible reminder of love, strength, and transformation? This is the heart of postpartum body photography, celebrating your body not for how it “used to be,” but for what it has done and who you are now.
Your postpartum body is not less than before, it is more. It carries the story of life you nurtured, the strength you summoned, and the love you hold. Every season of motherhood brings change, but also meaning. Whether your baby is brand new in your arms or running barefoot through tall grass, your story is worth documenting.
Photography offers a way to see yourself clearly, not through society’s lens of “getting your body back,” but through a lens that honours your authentic journey.
Recently, I had the privilege of photographing a fellow photographer and her beautiful son in one of Whitehorse, Yukon’s hidden gems. The setting was breathtaking: tall grass swayed in the morning breeze, the river shimmered under the rising sun, and the surrounding mountains stood as guardians in the distance.
Even though the summer sun was already high, golden light spilled across her hair, making it glow. She told me she didn’t just want to look beautiful — she wanted portraits that captured this new chapter of her life. Her postpartum photography session became less about “posing” and more about celebrating motherhood with honesty and joy.
When we step outdoors, surrounded by the beauty of the Yukon landscape, photography becomes more than images. It becomes storytelling. The tall grass, the soft light, the quiet moments between mother and child — all of these elements reflect the strength, resilience, and love of the postpartum journey.
As a Whitehorse postpartum photographer, my goal is to create portraits that empower you to embrace your body and your story. These sessions are not about perfection; they’re about authenticity, tenderness, and the celebration of change.
If you’re ready to honour your postpartum body through photography, I would be honoured to walk with you on that journey. Together, we can create portraits that celebrate your strength, your love, and every chapter of your story.
Because your postpartum body is worthy of celebration, exactly as it is.
